Since the end of April, the top privacy crypto assets by market cap have increased from a combined value of $10.7 billion to around $5.09 billion today. During that period, Monero lost 48% in value, while Zcash lost 56% against the US dollar.

Privacy Coin Economy has been losing billions since late April

The top five privacy cryptocoins Monero (XMR), Zcash (ZEC), Decred (DCR), Nucypher (NU) and Horizen (ZEN) have seen significant falls in value over the past two months. As of April 28, 2022, archived data shows that the top privacy crypto assets by market cap were worth $10.7 billion.

Since then, the total amount of privacy-centric tokens has lost 54% over a 54-day period. XMR was then traded for $227.96 and today XMR is at $123.15. ZEC was trading at $148.92 per unit and is currently changing hands at $68.61 per unit.

Additionally, the Cosmos-based Secret (SCRT) used to be the fourth largest privacy coin, but it now sits at sixth place. Horizen (ZEN) was sixth then, now it’s fifth.

Similarly, nucypher (NU) jumped from fifth to fourth place in terms of privacy-focused tokens by market valuation. While XMR has lost 48% in value since April 28, the coin has lost 32% of this metric over the past 30 days.

ZEC’s loss since that day was 56%, but in the last month, ZEC’s USD value slipped 37%. While the largest privacy coins in terms of market cap have posted seven-day single-digit gains over the past week, some lesser-known privacy cryptos have posted double- and triple-digit gains.

Zclassic (ZCL) jumped over 129%, Scala (XLA) surged 105%, Cloakcoin (CLOAK) posted 57.7% gains and Firo (FIRO) surged 19.5% over the past week. However, privacy coin kurrent (KURT) is down 43.1%, Mimblewimble coin is down 23.7% and Ghost (GHOST) is down 19% over the past week.

Monero and zcash are the top two privacy coins today in terms of market cap, and out of the $5.09 billion, the two tokens claim $3.082 billion of that value. XMR and ZEC together make up 60.55% of all privacy coin market caps.
