The Japanese game manufacturer Sega wants to integrate NFTs and cloud support into its new “Super Game” project. The proposal was made during an interview on the company’s Japanese recruitment website.
According to Sega producer Masayoshi Kikuchi, such a move will be inevitable. In his own words, “It’s a natural extension for the future of gaming that it will expand into new areas like cloud gaming and NFTs.”

Sega ‘Super Game’ Project: What you need to know
During Sega’s fiscal 2021 presentation, the company outlined its plans to create a “Super Game” project. The project is a 5-year initiative that will host a wide range of cross-platform AAA titles. According to Sega’s Executive Vice President Shuji Utsumi, several titles are currently in the works for the “Super Game” project. In fact, the company plans to invest a whopping $800 million in the project.
Backlash from traditional players
Not surprisingly, the news drew backlash from anti-crypto players. Twitter user @DynamoSuperX replied in a tweet: “THE TREASON. WHY SEGA?“. Some Sega fans also questioned the need for NFT integration with the Super Game given that games are already cross-console playable. Longtime Sega fans view gaming NFTs as corporate greed and generally disagree with the news. In fact, in February, Sega had to suspend P2E NFT games until fans no longer see them as a money grab.
Final Thoughts
Nevertheless, Sega filed a trademark for the term “Sega NFT” in January of this year. Given the pace of development, it’s only a matter of time before the company’s projects like the Super Game will include NFTs. However, Sega is not alone in its foray into Web 3. Rumor has it that Activision Blizzard could also integrate NFTs into Call of Duty games.
