The highly anticipated NFT collection “Akutars” endured a real development nightmare when poor coding caused a number of $34 million exploits to freeze. While the mint viewed serious security warnings as project “fud”, it went ahead and caused a massive wave of transactions to fail as over 11,000 in ETH are locked in the contract forever.

Acu NFT
The Aku team took to Twitter, updated their community of their missteps, took full responsibility for the situation and posted a Refund Schedule. In addition, the founder of the project has expressed his deepest sympathy to those affected by their mistakes and ensures that the community will recover from this great surprise.
The Akutar NFT collection comes from the work of former MLB player Micah Johnson. After a successful run, Micah decided to follow his passion in the arts industry. His dexterity and storytelling ability have resulted in a monumental collection that chronicles the life of a heroic space traveler named “Aku”.
Aku Chapter holders received 61% of the NFT supply, which was distributed based on how many “chapters” of Aku’s life they owned. For example, if you own four “unique” chapters, the owner will get an Akutar with an “OG trait”.
After taking care of their community, 38% of the remaining supply went to a modified Dutch auction. While the remaining 1% will be used for partners and future collaborations.
Each of the 15,000 Akutar in circulation grants the holder access to the ever-evolving Akuverse. In addition, owners get exclusive access to future project collaborations and experiences.
The consequences
Developing a project is not an easy task, and as with anything Ethereum-related, it can be quite expensive. While the act of coding may conjure up images of a hooded figure in a dark corner rattling on a keyboard, actual reality remains far removed from the general public.
In fact, the complexity of coding can require more hands-on work than most efforts today. Therefore, networking and consistent collaboration provided the necessary springboards for a project to thrive in the long term.
The mistakes made are dearer to nobody than to myself. I reinvested almost everything into building Aku. Almost everything will come back to refunds and we will continue to work on what we set out to do. stone by stone. – Micah Johnson
Because developers have access to debuggers, third-party verification companies, and sites like GitHub, exploits in code can often be prevented before money is taken from backers. Especially when Received alerts from a security researcher and toss them aside as unwarranted “fud” to watch the “accusations” turn into facts. Although the community has suffered a devastating blow, the AkuDreams community remains strong as they gather behind the Creator
I am sorry. I am so sorry for the Aku family. I care so much for the Aku family, I let you all down and I am so sorry. I will keep building brick by brick, keep working tirelessly, because without the Aku community, Aku is nothing. We’ve come too far, I can’t stop now – Micah Johnson
