Not everyone has the privilege of roaming freely in the real world. But now you can do this in the virtual world! In partnership with Degree, Decentraland will host the first-ever marathon in the Metaverse next week. Dubbed the Degree Metathon, the run will take place at Genesis Plaza in Decentraland, beginning Tuesday, April 26 at 22:00 UTC and ending on April 27 at 22:00 UTC.

The first marathon in the metaverse at Decentraland: what you need to know
First of all, the marathon aims to foster a more inclusive movement in Decentraland. The idea is that everyone can move freely in both the virtual world and the real world. In this regard, Degree designed a wheelchair-friendly track for the race that is compatible with adaptive devices.
Apart from that, runners can run alongside famous athletes and celebrities. These include Paralympic medalist Blake Leeper, para-snowboarder Amy Purdy, pro soccer player Hector Herrera and rapper Fat Joe. During the marathon in Decentraland, you will discover their inspiring stories to break barriers to movement.
Indeed, as the metaverse has grown in size, inclusion has become a key issue in this area. The good news is that Decentraland has been committed to inclusion in various forms all along. Earlier this month, the platform partnered with Closeup to host Metaverse marriages. This is especially true for couples who are denied the right to marry in the real world. Back in March, Decentraland hosted a massive fashion week featuring top fashion and beauty companies. Fashionistas had the time of their lives during the event. No doubt this upcoming virtual marathon will help Decentraland broaden the scope of its involvement. So, why not join in and support free movement in the metaverse!
