This is an opinion editorial by Anthony Feliciano, Bitcoin events organizer and father of two.
On June 19, 2022 we celebrate Father’s Day and many of us will be wondering what do you get your father who has everything?
Well, if he’s a boomer, I bet he doesn’t have bitcoin. If your father is like me and the rest of my family, they probably have little to no interest in bitcoin. To this day, when I call my parents, they ask me how Bit-CON is doing. To their credit, like many Boomers – and most members of Congress, like the Warren Buffets – they would then smile about it. They correct themselves by saying “Bitcoin,” but I have to chuckle when I hear it. Her well-mannered intention is there, so I appreciate her anyway.
As a new father to Bitcoin Blocks (I have two children under the age of two), I took the liberty of naming their generation “Covennials” (feel free to use it) and each parent who had a child The Last Two Years will surely bring a smile. With kids as young as me, they can’t send me sats for Father’s Day this year and that’s fine. It’s my duty and every other dad out there – new, old or expectant – to stack sats for our kids.
I wanted to make this an open letter to my kids, but for this year’s Father’s Day, it’s better to address all the bitcoin dads out there. It is not only our duty but also our obligation as fathers to keep stacking sats for our children regardless of their age. I look at my children and the world today and wonder what the future will look like for them in five, 10, 20, 50 years. I cannot predict the future or anticipate its shape, but what I know today is that Bitcoin gives me a sense of hope and a degree of freedom from current economic and geopolitical events because I am able to pass some of it on value on them. If I can teach them what I learned down the rabbit hole, then they too have a future.
For all you bitcoin dads out there, take some time to reflect on your journey down the bitcoin rabbit hole and how to share that knowledge with your kids. They may not get it today, but eventually they will. Take the time to talk not only about the ethos surrounding bitcoin, but also its applications, how to spend, transact, send, receive, etc. Anything we can teach them today can only teach them of tomorrow Be worth.
It is our duty as fathers to lead our children to success. Whatever their interests, make sure Bitcoin is part of the conversation. This is our duty, not only to offer our children an alternative future, but also to share the knowledge necessary for them to be successful in it. With our knowledge of Bitcoin, we are able to share a way forward with you. No matter how this bitcoin social experiment turns out in the future, wouldn’t it be amazing to hear your kids say, “Yes, my dad/grandfather was there in the beginning”?
Happy Father’s Day to all Bitcoin dads out there.
